Organizations and Affiliations

Transportation Alternatives maintains formal membership in a number of national and international transportation information-sharing and advocacy organizations, including:

  • American Public Transit Association (APTA)
  • National Association of Pupil Transportation (NAPT)
  • Supplier’s Council of the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS)
  • United Motorcoach Association (UMA)
  • Association Internationale pour la Sécurité du Transport des Jeunes (A.I.S.T.)
  • Family Motorcoach Association of America (FMCA)
  • Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA)

TA President Ned Einstein has served as a member of two national committees associated with the National Congress on School Transportation, in addition to writing position papers to four committees of the 2005 Congress:

  • Committee on School Transportation Safety (1995)
  • Non-School Bus Use Committee (2000)

He is currently an active member of APTA’s Access Committee, which deals primarily with ADA-related issues related to disabled riders of public transportation services.

In the past, TA President Ned Einstein also served on a number of national and international committees and/or business organizations, including:

  • U.S. Business Council for Southeastern Europe (USBCSEE)
  • U.S. Business Council for Slovenia
  • ANATEEP
  • National Academy of Science’s Committee on School Travel Safety

Within these organizations, TA President Ned Einstein served on the USBCSEE Board of Directors from 1988 – 1996, and served as the Director of the U.S. Business Council for Slovenia during the nation’s first five years of independence (1991-1996). He helped co-author the National Academy Committee’s publication “The Relative Risks of School Travel Safety”.

TA President Ned Einstein has formally addressed the membership and boards of several of these organizations, including the U.S. Business Council for Slovenia, NASDPTS and NAPT. And as Chairman of TAM-USA, Mr. Einstein has presented its vehicles at exhibitions of NAPT, UMA, ANATEEP, and numerous state and regional pupil transportation organizations (such as the California Association of State Transportation Officials).

TA President Ned Einstein also served as an initial instructor of the recently-formed National Motorcoach Academy, sponsored and organized under the direction of the United Motorcoach Association, of which TA is a member.

Finally, TA President Ned Einstein is closely affiliated with several national trade publications, including several for which he has authored monthly articles for more than a decade (National Bus Trader) and monthly since 2008 (in addition to previous isolated articles (School Transportation News). Among other publications for which Mr. Einstein wrote articles are School Bus Fleet and Exceptional Parent magazine (no longer in existence). Finally, Mr. Einstein has published eight full-length papers published in various years’ Proceedings of the APTA Bus and Paratransit Conference. Articles about Mr. Einstein, Transportation Alternatives and TAM-USA have appeared in a number of national and international publications.
